Estrella Morente in the Cervantes
Daughter of the famous Montoyita and Enrique Morente, Estrella is the spiritual offspring of Pastora Pavón, known as La Niña de los Peines. She was born in Granada in 1980, and began her singing career at the age of seventeen. Two years ago, she recorded 'My singing and a poem', a compilation of various flamenco disciplines with a personal and classical flavour, which was regarded as something very different for a singer of her generation, mostly influenced by the newer trend towards fusion.

The Cervantes Theatre is indeed honoured to play host to such an excellent singer, and a large turnout is expected at her concert on February 29th, beginning at eight in the evening.
Estrella Morente has one of the most outstanding voices of our times, along with a profound knowledge of her trade. With her innate musical taste, she is fast becoming the flamenco singer by whom all others are judged. Her voice is sweet and mysterious, warm and seductive, and her melodies refined and expertly enunciated. In spite of the temptation to produce an album using all the technology at her fingertips, her father has encouraged her to perform the simpler songs of her childhood.
Born to such parents, her singing is neither pure nor orthodox, but contains that edge of personality that makes for a true revolution in the best tradition of flamenco singing.
